Service Description

A focused weekend of dance development for young performers who are already busy performing. Many musical theatre performers spend their year auditioning, rehearsing, and performing without having time for consistent dance training. But MT performers need to be versatile. They must be able to move across styles, learn choreography quickly, and execute it with confidence and proper technique. Our Dance Intensives provide focused bursts of technical development without adding another weekly commitment. Ballet and Jazz will be foundational disciplines offered throughout the year, with additional disciplines such as Jazz/Funk, Tap, Hip Hop, and others offered based on instructor availability. Students will work with professional teaching artists to develop: • Dance technique and foundations • Versatility across multiple styles • Strength, coordination, flexibility, and musicality • Ability to quickly learn and retain choreography • Clean, confident execution • Performance quality and movement confidence • Audition and ensemble skills THE GOAL? To help young musical theatre performers become dancers and movers that choreographers can trust. THE ACT LOUISVILLE APPROACH FOCUS. DEVELOP. PRACTICE. RETURN. Each intensive provides concentrated technical work followed by an individualized DEVELOPMENT PLAN—skills and exercises students can continue working on between intensives. Students then return ready to build on their progress and take what they've developed directly into rehearsals, auditions, and performances. AND THEN WE SHOW IT. Each Dance Intensive culminates in a final showing of the work. The showing will be filmed, and each student will receive individual solo footage they can use as audition and performance material. DANCE INTENSIVES ARE OPEN TO YOUTH + TEENS. FIRST DANCE INTENSIVE September 18–20 Additional Dance Intensives will be offered throughout the school year, featuring different dance disciplines and professional teaching artists.
